‘Top 3 Fun Facts’ about NZ
1. A kiwi is the national New Zealand bird. Kiwi's are very hard to find in and to see in the
wild. A kiwi's beak reminds me of a wood peckers beak but a kiwi's beak is longer.

Kia ora Kris,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Summer Learning Journey programme for 2018-2019. It is wonderful to see that you are participating this year! I was really hoping that you would be able to join us and to share in our learning journey. This year we are going to learn all about the environments of New Zealand and talk about the different things that we can do to protect this beautiful place that we call home.
As you mentioned in your post, we have some very special (native) birds that live here in New Zealand. The kiwi is probably the most famous of these native birds and one of the most 'at risk.' They tend to live in secluded (hidden) places and to come out at night to search for food. They are nocturnal animals which makes them very hard to find!
I had the chance to see a kiwi bird at the Auckland zoo a couple of years ago. Have you ever seen one in real life?
I hope that you get the chance to see one soon and that you also get the chance to continue with the SLJ this summer. We'll look forward to reading your posts and providing comments. We'll also keep track of all of the points that you earn and come back in February with certificates and prizes for the top bloggers at Pt England.
Hope to see you online again soon!
Cheers,
Rachel
