By Chris (Room 4)
This report will share my learning about the Colosseum. I will share some history of this famous structure, give some facts about the Colosseum and highlight some key features on a diagram of the Colosseum.
I learnt that the Colosseum is the biggest amphitheatre ever built. It was once home to battling gladiators. Before it was called the Flavian amphitheatre. but now known as the Colosseum. The amphitheatre is now a tourist attraction.
Did you know that there is so much history about the Colosseum. The Colosseum has endured for 2,000 years. Partially ruined. The amphitheatre is 620 feet long and 512 feet wide. It took 8 years to build. It was in construction in 72 AD. The Colosseum was as tall as a twelve story building.
The Colosseum is an icon of ancient Rome. It was built by thousands of slaves. It was made of brick stone and concrete.Vespasian died before it was finished being built so it was opened by his son. the son was the emperor Titus.
Thousands of animals fought and got killed. Gladiators fought elephants, tigers, bears and bulls.Criminals were executed they could be flung to their death. There weren’t just land battles there were also ship battles. They filled the ground with water.
